A Buncombe County Schools science teacher has earned high marks for her work in the classroom.
Cane Creek Middle School’s Liza Webster has been recognized as the District 8 Outstanding Science Teacher by the North Carolina Science Teachers Association. She was nominated by BCS District Science Curriculum Specialist Kate Whittier.
“Ms. Webster thinks outside the box, developing engaging lessons that capture students' imaginations and stimulate their interest in science,” Whitter shared. “Her ability to integrate science with other subjects using supplementary materials is exemplary. She brings a holistic approach to education, ensuring that students see the interconnectedness of scientific concepts with the broader world.”
One of Ms. Webster’s recent initiatives helped bring another hands-on learning opportunity for students. She collaborated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to install a native pollinator garden at the school.
“At the heart of my passion for teaching is the joy of watching students grow and succeed,” Ms. Webster said. “There's something profoundly rewarding about seeing a student grasp a difficult concept, overcome a challenge, or achieve a goal they once thought was out of reach. This sense of progress and accomplishment is not only a testament to the importance of this hard work, but also a reflection on the impact teaching can have.”
Ms. Webster, who also serves on the BCS District Science Team, credits her success in part to the help and talents of other teachers around her.
“Ms. Webster's dedication to fostering student, school, and community interest in science is evident in her every endeavor,” said Whitter. “She is a catalyst for positive change and a source of inspiration for both her colleagues and students. Her work has not only elevated the quality of science education in our district, but has also created a lasting impact on the community.”
Congratulations, Ms. Webster!
