King, Karen - 7th Grade Science

Welcome to 7th Grade Science

Mrs. King and Clara

Karen R. King

I am so very excited to be teaching science as a year-long course!  I love teaching science!!!  I am excited about working with you.  I think science should be interactive.  Together we will be participating in experiments, discussions and cooperative groups. I hope you’ll discover a passion for science and how things work.

I came to Cane Creek from South Carolina in January 2007.  I am starting my 25th year of teaching.  I received a BA from Coker College in Hartsville, SC and a Masters of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College, Columbia, SC.  I have received many teaching awards throughout my career, but the most cherished are the notes received from students and former students and their parents.  I was CCMS Teacher of the Year and Buncombe County – Reynolds District Finalist for 2009.  I can’t imagine a more rewarding career than helping students discover a love for learning.

I have a wonderful family and enjoy spending time with them.  I am married to the Rev. Dr. William D. King, pastor of Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Asheville.  We have one son, Michael.  Michael and his wife, Kate, have a precious daughter, Clara Grace.  We love spending time with Clara and watching her grow.  They live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (oh, so far away). We have one dog, Higgins, a lab/shepherd.

I, also, enjoy spending time with friends, attending sporting events, and reading.  I love snow and hope for many inches during the coming winter months!  My favorite places to visit are the lake and the beach.  Since our son and his family live in Baton Rouge, it is also one of our destination places (even though it is very HOT and HUMID).

I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with each of you.
