Dear Performing Arts Parents,

As we begin another year of band here at Cane Creek Middle School, we will kick off our annual fundraiser this Friday, August 30th 2019. Per our North Carolina Standard Course of Study in the Arts our students should understand the role of music in North Carolina and the United States. 

  The Asheville Symphony website states that, “Currently, the Asheville Symphony operates on a budget of approximately $2 million, employing an 80-100 member orchestra paid on a per-service basis and presents concerts featuring internationally renowned as well as local guest artists. Funding for the Symphony now is drawn from a wide variety of sources, most notably the North Carolina Arts Council, individual contributions, advertising, Guild fundraising projects, and local government, with about 40% of the budget provided by ticket revenue.” (
The Charlotte Symphony website states that, “Our organization, like all American orchestras, relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses and foundations throughout the greater Charlotte area to help us fulfill our mission and serve our community. As with most performing arts organizations, ticket sales cover one-third of our annual operating expenses, which means that TWO-THIRDS of our budget must come from contributed revenue.” (
We at Cane Creek are grateful for the monies we receive from Buncombe County Schools, but we need to supplement that each year with our fundraiser and donations from parents and our community. This Friday we will devote a small portion of our lesson to the importance of the performing arts in our state and country and how they stay afloat in our modern times. At the conclusion of class, coupon books for our performing arts fundraiser will be distributed to all students. Please take a moment to look at this coupon book and see for yourself the amazing value they represent.  This year we will also sell coffee from local roasters, Pisgah Coffee Roasters.
No one is required to participate; this fundraiser is completely optional. If you choose not to participate simply let us know in writing and return the coupon book to your child’s fine arts teacher.  On the reverse side of this letter please find the prize chart and fundraiser details. Stapled to this sheet is a letter that your child can share with people to read before they make a decision to purchase or not. As usual, donations are greatly appreciated.
